The Texas Scottish Heritage website is dedicated
to the preservation of the stories of our Texas pioneer families. We have a current project
designed to research the earliest Texas settlers of Scottish descent.
If
your family can trace its Texas roots to the early to mid 1800's, please contact
us with your family stories. Find
you name below and help us fill in the history!

The Scots who
came to America, and ultimately to Texas, wove a
"tartan" all their own with their very lives.
Each strand was essential to the strength of the fabric and
the beauty of the design. Scots came to Texas from
England, Ireland and from other states. Many of the
descendents were of mixed blood as they reached out to form a
new home... a new nation.
History is
more than statistics... the living story is the personal
one. Although the truth lies in the story of those
who made it, the obvious is all too often lost amid the
"proven". Much of our site is dedicated
to preserve the personal stories, and where possible sort
through the facts to find the truth.
It is our
sincere hope that the stories we share will spark a
remembrance and lead you to preserve your own stories - ask
your elderly, search old letters and Bibles. When you do
discover "Your-story" - please share. We would
love to hear it!

Duncan McLean traveled from Orkney to Texas in the
late spring of 1995 to go in search of the legendary Bob Wills and his Texas
Playboys... Both a quest for a musical grail and a wildly funny travelogue,
Duncan McLean has captured the singular wonders of Texas and its maverick
inhabitants, its staggering 110-in-the-shade heat, and, above all, the glorious,
mongrel music - that he crossed the world to hear.
